Virtual vs. Tangible
Online vs On-Paper.
I might be a bit old-fashioned, but there's something undeniably special about holding an item in your hand compared to viewing it online. Don't misunderstand me; I wholeheartedly embrace how technology has revolutionized our lives, but I also hold a deep appreciation for the physical world.
Google Docs has been an amazing tool in my journey as an author. I couldn’t imagine doing this with pen and pad or a typewriter. Even as I write this blog, I’m not sure I wouldn’t have caught that ‘typewriter’ is one word rather than two without spell check.
Holding a book in your hand. Flipping through the pages. Feeling the cover. It’s a different experience than seeing words on a screen. It makes it all feel real.
Recently, I took a step back from the digital world and decided to print out my manuscript. Today, it finally arrived in the mail.
I know this will be crucial for me in the writing process. Personally, I don’t read books at my desk at a laptop and I’m at the point where I need to take an outsider’s perspective to my book.
I want to enjoy the book as I would any other book. That means relaxing after a long day of work in a rocker on the patio. That’s the next step.
